A feline humanoid figure walks by before sitting in a lounge chair by a fireplace, setting down a saucer with a cup of tea while pulling out a pipe from their robe pocket. The spotted tabby empties a small vile into the pipe and gently shakes it in small circles before bringing it to their lips and gently blowing. A stream of colourful bubbles floats from the pipe and glisten in the fire’s glare. Pale amber eyes watched them for a moment and then turned their attention to their audience. “Greetings. Thank you for joining me here. I have much to say…”
As we all know, it is early New Leaf, and that can mean many things; new life, a new beginning, a fresh start, the chance for something great and exciting… but few see what else it could mean… and not all are so pleasant. Heavy snow storms in Leaf Bare can come back to bite the clans even as the warmer weather approaches. With the sun brighter and more persistent than all throughout Leaf Bare, it is to be expected that the snow and will melt… but not all places are so easily reached by it’s warm glow and ice can easily form and cause treacherous landscapes. Yet a greater danger is more unseen and overlooked than that. No cat would suspect water as causing any troubles at all… but few cats know what water can do. Melting snow will often shift the earth, which was already weakened by the cold, and this along with the flowing of waters, could create landslides! Now landslides can vary in degrees of danger; most would be small and easily stopped by trees, but for places where trees are lacking… well the very ground could be more tricky than running on ice. We know that Windclan have tunnels and they can easily be strained with the shifting and sliding land above them. Cave-ins could happen, which would jeopardize the lives of those below and above ground. But not all landslides can be stopped by trees and even than they may not be stopped for very long… once debris collects and builds up no cat can tell when it will move again… with enough force to decimate an entire camp along with the clan! Land would change, landmarks could be formed; the landscape uprooted and turned right around! Shadowclan has a gorge… which could easily be filled with water and ice… and what of the marsh! It would grow and spread and compromise the other hunting grounds. Thunderclan’s plentiful streams could spill over the land and create another marsh-like territory… how can any cat hunt in that?! And who could tell where the ground gets deep or connects to the streams that can carry a cat away. All the collecting water could mean a lot to Riverclan… or so any cat may think, but the flood shores would make fishing a lot more tricky and the plentiful fish could attract other predators who are keen fishers, like weasels and predatory birds, which would cause no end of trouble. And what of the springs? The place where the cats of the clans go to speak to Starclan… the waters could reach even there and make their spiritual visits almost impossible if not incredibly dangerous… And where will the clans be if Starclan cannot properly speak to them? If Starclan cannot negate tensions when most needed, if they cannot warn them or send them premonitions at what may come or what may need to be done… who is to guide them along the way? What will hold the Warrior Code together?!
Still… that is only one possible outcome. New Leaf does, after all, bring forth a great deal of things. New life can mean a bountiful amount of prey if the seasons were fair… but with more prey comes more predators. Foxes, badgers, predatory birds, even coyotes! The duties of a Warrior can be strenuous enough as they are, but with a greater threat such as this… can they be blamed for not keeping borders freshly marked? Excuses do not feed a clan and any form of weakness can be taken advantage on. A greedy clan could take a weakened boarder and erase it, expanding their own… though not everything could be intentional. With a change in scenery any cat can make a mistake. A patrol could mark their boarders a bit farther than before and such an honest mistake could turn to a bitter argument if seen as intentional. With so much to worry about, stress can easily give way to agitation and then aggression. Border skirmishes will happen that any cat can be sure of; some, with the leading of a calmer Warrior could be nothing more than harsh words and insults… but words cannot always be forgotten. But as irritation sets in like a persistent tick, something will have to break. Will old alliances still remain strong during this time? Surely now is the time when allies are most needed… but this is a different era with different cats… it could be anyone’s guess. But promises can be made into pretty lies and a clan could find themselves victim to their supposed allies… every situation has to be taken into consideration very carefully… but every good warrior knows that chances and risks sometimes have to be made; and more experienced ones will also know that sacrifices might have to be made one way or another. Such desperate times can turn anyone and everyone around, leaving them lost and confused… who could they turn to? Who can they truly trust? Such questions could even divide a clan…
Well… these are only some possibilities. And one mustn’t forget that a forest path has many twists and turns. No one can be sure where they may end up… which way they are going or which way they have come. These are merely rippling images glimmering on water’s surface and they can easily be seen one way or another… what I mean is my ideas can be changed and altered. I mean for them to be flexible and interchangeable; opening up the chances of a wide range of plots. Let them prosper!
